Delivery with short hospital stay
In Flanders, the average hospital stay after childbirth is about four days. In many hospitals this has been reduced to two or three days, in consultation with your gynaecologist and paediatrician. After a Caesarean Section you will stay 4 or 5 days in the hospital.
Actually, you can go home as early as a few hours after birth. The care that you and your baby would get in the hospital is provided by the midwife at your home. Through day 5 you will receive a daily visit from the midwife.
After a shortened hospital stay, your baby will get an additional medical check-up between day 7 and 10 by your GP or paediatrician.
We recommend you to contact the midwife already during your pregnancy so that we can prepare for postnatal care.

- You got advice from different angles and you can not get out?
- Do you have questions about breastfeeding or are you unsure?
The benefits of breastfeeding are endless. Among other things, it helps your baby to build up his immunity and reduces the risk of allergies, the breast milk is adapted to the needs of your baby and there are also benefits for the mother.
Most women can give breastfeeding, only rarely does nature provide otherwise. Moreover, there are few problems that cannot be solved.

Your preparation
To increase the chances of a good start of breastfeeding, it is recommended to inform yourself during pregnancy. This can be done during an individual consultation, during the breastfeeding workshop or during the pregnancy course.
Breastfeeding consultation
Breastfeeding is often without problems and it is a very pleasant experience. But it can also be different. Some moms are unsure or have many questions about their breastfeeding. In these situations it is very important that you do not get stuck with it. A quick intervention and good guidance can quickly prevent or treat a number of problems.
The midwife or lactation consultant IBCLC closely follows breastfeeding and gives you a lot of advice and tips. Sometimes it is just a small tip that you need to make your breastfeeding very pleasant.
